Labuan: Former Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Suhaili Abd Rahman has confirmed joining Parti Warisan Sabah to help strengthen the party’s presence on the island.
Suhaili, who was the two-term MP from 1999 to 2008, said the people on the island wanted him to join the party and to lead the island back on track economically.
“I have studied the concept of Warisan’s struggles that interest me to join the party, and although I was not in good shape due to my health condition, I helped campaign for Labuan Warisan’s candidate during the 14th general election campaign period.
“I would be joining the party through Labuan Warisan Division and I might be working together with the former Labuan MP to take Labuan to greater height’s once again like during my terms as MP.
I have seen that the development on the island was very slow compared to during my tenure, and this is sad to the people.
He said since Tun Dr Mahathir was responsible for taking out Labuan from Sabah since 1984 and elevated it into a federal territory, therefore, Labuan development must continue.
Suhaili said the support of people of Labuan as shown in the just-concluded 14th general election clearly proved the people in Labuan wanted a change.
He also requested the Prime Minister to give similar instruction (as issued to Attorney General and other agencies), to stop any files movements or being destroyed at Labuan Corporation’s (LC) office as massive abuse of power and conflicts of interest had taken place for the last 10 years by previous leaders.
“Therefore, I want to return the glory of Labuan Corporation like before when I was the chairman for eight years, or at least back on track like before, without any elements of corruption and power abuse, as I learnt and adhered to the advice of Tun Daim Zainuddin who was once looking after the Labuan.
