The Naza Group of Companies is joining hands with the Malaysia Rugby Union (MRU) as the official title sponsor of the National 7’s Tournament organised by the union.
In support of MRU’s initiative to cultivate an interest in sports, especially rugby among the youths of Malaysia, the Naza Group is eager to contribute towards the nurturing of rugby talents in Malaysia.
“Naza aspires to be a progressive company that promotes sustainable development and growth. We are pleased to be a part of MRU’s initiative to promote rugby as a sport in Malaysia.
“The Naza Group aspires to be a nation builder by contributing to the development of the community while encouraging Malaysians to live a healthier lifestyle and be active in sports,” said Naza Corporation Holdings group executive chairman and chief executive officer SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin.
MRU president Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya received a cheque of RM200,000 from the Naza Group, together with one unit of a Peugeot Traveller MPV worth RM199,888 which will be the official car for the National 7’s Tournament.
The National 7’s Tournament is pivotal in the development of rugby sevens in Malaysia as it involves the participation of several state teams including Johor, Sabah, Labuan, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Terengganu, Kelantan, Putrajaya, Perlis, Selangor, Kedah, Pulau Pinang and Pahang, as well as Polis Diraja Malaysia and Angkatan Tentera Malaysia.
With the growing popularity of rugby among Malaysian youths, especially at the grass-roots level, the National 7’s Tournament was held in Melaka and Johor recently, with the Perak leg to be held at Ipoh Padang on March 24 and 25.
