Another earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale occurred in Ranau, Sabah at 8.09am Friday.

According to a Meteorological Department statement today, the epicentre located at 6.1 degrees north and 116.6 east, was about 16km northwest of Ranau.

“The tremors could be felt in Ranau,” it said.

a strong 6.7 quake on the Richter scale also shocked New Ireland Province, 117km east of Kokopo, Papua New Guinea at 1.39am this morning.

No tsunami warning was issued.

Meanwhile, Masidi also urged agents and operators to consider certain initiatives for climbers who had made bookings and cancelled them.

“For those climbers who have lost interest, I hope the booking agents will consider refunding them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Masidi commended the efforts of Sabah Tattoo Association (STA) and Billion Movie Production Sdn Bhd who organised the tattoo convention and suggested that such activity can be another door to attract tourism interest in the state.

Masidi said as Borneo, Sabah and Sarawak, is no stranger to the tattoo culture, the organising of the tattoo convention will also promote the races and cultures that are found in the State to tattoo enthusiasts as well as tourists.

He said that the main objective of the convention is to highlight and promote the local talents in the tattooing industry that are found in Kota Kinabalu and to contribute 10 percent of the sales to the Single Mothers Association and other charity bodies.

The three-day event starting Friday until 11th sees tattoo enthusiasts from countries such as China, Indonesia, Singapore as well as neighbouring states, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Labuan were part of the convention.

Also present was the Guinness World Record holder for the Most Checker Tattoos, Matt Gone from the United States of America.

Interesting events will be carried out such as tattoo competitions, bikini tattoo contest, graffiti, charity bidding, cultural performances, trade expo and lucky draw, among others. – Jeremy S Zabala
