LABUAN: Two men have been arrested here for allegedly running a get-rich-quick scheme that saw some 650 investors, including several VIPs with one of them having a Datuk Seri title.
Labuan police chief Supt Muhamad Farid Ahmad said a 24-year-old man from Menumbok, Sabah, was arrested at 6pm on Thursday while an Indonesian, 54, was picked up at 6pm on June 25.
The men, he said, were detained by the Labuan Police Commercial Crimes Investigation Department after two people lodged reports claiming to have lost RM193,000 and RM10,000 in the scheme.
“At least 650 people have invested in the scheme and several of them are VIPs,” he said.
Supt Muhamad Farid said the scheme was run similar to a multi-level marketing format, adding that downline investors were promised huge returns.
“We have confiscated three cheques totalling RM444,450, ATM cards, a company stamp, a cheque book and handphones from the men,” he said.
